Let’s go to the Oscar’s… de la Renta: The Restrospective World Premier at the de Young

It was a beautiful evening!  To be swirling amid some of the loveliest gowns!  It wasn’t down the red carpet, but close?!?  The opening of the Oscar De la Renta: the Retrospective exhibit at the de Young made all feel very special, indeed.  It was a delightful fashionista treat.

Showcasing an amazing collections of Oscar’s (may I call him by that?) legendary and celebrated fashions –  day wear and evening wear, ball gowns and red carpet ensembles, it is a feast for the eyes.  His renowned and breathtaking conceptions takes one back through five decades, in remembrance times gone by. Items are shared from the archives, the designer’s personal collection, private lenders around the world and other museums.  The de la Renta designs made the wearers glow, strutting with poise and elegance across the room, exuding such confidence, influence and inspiration of the best there was.  Ahh, my dreams….

And thanks to the de Young, the World Premier Opening was a sumptuous affair.  The setting was lovely and set the tone for the exhibit.  All the food stations were first class. Delicious nibbles treated all as elite persons befitting the de la Renta collection. The caviar bar was exceptional, as was the rack of lamb. There were luscious mushrooms tarts, seafood cocktails, savory artisan cheeses and charcuterie stations, and a wonderful variety of other delectable morsels and beverages. Thanks again for a lovely evening to commemorate and celebrate this distinguished and influential designer.

The Oscar de la Renta Retrospect runs through May 30th, 2013 at the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park. Don’t miss it!!
